Let’s talk about a couple of my friends, Fish and Taco. Alone, Fish and Taco are adequate, to say the least. Taco enriches a texmex-fiend’s nightlife on Tuesdays and subpar fast food on other days, while Fish, who leads a quiet, ubiquitous existence, ranges its inhabitance from being served on the average upper-middle-class dinner plate to hiding in the deepest, darkest oceanic abyss. Apart, the two don’t really cause any harm, aside from Fish occasionally terrorizing surfers and things of the sort. Nor do they achieve anything spectacular. United, however, the magic they generate (especially when paired with some good salsa) is out of this world. Now, my love for fish tacos may be apparent (and possibly excessive), but after you try my absolute favorite fish tacos, you too will share my disproportionate love for the union of Fish and Taco.
Located in one of the far corners of downtown Los Angeles, Cha Cha Chili, or Red Hot Kitchen as it used to be known, melds two distinctly different regions of taste to create a truly beautiful multicultural combination. What are the two cultures, you ask? One is obviously Mexican; the other Korean. Be it a fad or not, Asian Fusion food is the key concept many eateries today have taken upon themselves. Cha Cha Chili handles the merger exceptionally well, probably better than other any other place.
We tried the fish tacos, and sweet potato fries served with maple syrup. Both were done incredibly well. These fish tacos were the crunchiest I’ve ever had with no sign of greasiness served with a blend of lettuce tossed in sesame seeds and a fantastically spicy, garlic-y salsa all over a couple of corn tortillas. The fries were crunchy on the outside, perfectly done on the inside, lightly salted and served with a side of some good quality maple syrup. Seriously, so yam-y (sorry, couldn’t resist). Consider substituting sweet potato fries with maple syrup for traditional yams on Thanksgiving. Aside from fish tacos, Cha Cha Chili boasts a menu of burritos, chimichangas, teriyaki bowls, and much more.
You’ll just have to go try it all out yourself if you find yourself anywhere near LA. Who knows, you might run into us there as well :)
With our Love-O-Meters bursting,
