Tartine. San Francisco, California.
Tartine, known for its assortment of paninis, cakes, tarts and other pastries, is the most satisfying breakfast/brunch spot in the Mission District of San Francisco. To truly experience the magic of Tartine, it is crucial to get there before 11AM and try their legendary morning buns and double pain au chocolate. The morning bun is Tartine’s play on a cinnamon bun. The crispy outer layer is covered in a light orange glaze and perfectly compliments the soft, moist, sugary inside. Similarly, the double pain au chocolate is the perfect harmony between a croissant and chocolate. The freshly-made buttery croissant with melted chocolate is the perfect partner to your morning cup of coffee or tea. However, if you’re like us and have both a sweet and savory tooth and are looking for something saltier before you indulge in the morning bun and chocolate croissant, we’d recommend getting the Croque Monsieur. The Croque Monsieur is an open face sandwich with béchamel (a creamy white sauce), Gruyere cheese, thyme, pepper, topped with seasonal vegetables and sundried tomatoes. In addition, the dish comes with a pickled carrot, which provides a nice sour, vinegary break in between bites of the cheesy sandwich. The sandwich was delicious and comes highly recommended. So next time you’re in San Francisco looking for a great breakfast/brunch spot, make sure to visit Tartine!
