Blackhawk Grille: Danville, California.
Dining in Blackhawk is an extravagant experience. Think New York’s Upper East Side meets California cool. In the tastefully decorated Blackhawk Plaza you can find Blackhawk Grille, a fancy veteran restaurant of Danville, California. The service and atmosphere of Blackhawk Grille is above par. The restaurant overlooks the plaza which is filled with happy families feeding fish and ducks in the river that runs through the plaza. Now, I can go on and on about how beautiful I think Blackhawk Plaza is, but let’s get down to business. I am somewhat a sucker for presentation, but at the end of the day if the food isn’t good, the restaurant doesn’t cut it for me. Now, Blackhawk Grille satisfies my requirements of both amazing food and a beautiful ambiance. I recently went with my family of nine to the restaurant to be seated comfortably in a round table in the well spaced restaurant. The price range of the restaurant is affordable with some dishes being around $35 and others at $13. Now, let me talk about the food. The food was delectable and satisfying. I’ll admit the portions are a little small, but I snacked on the AMAZING complimentary warm bread served with an olive oil dip and a lamb chop appetizer. Now, most of you are probably wondering what a zabihah-eater like me was doing eating lamb at a non-zabihah restaurant, and well I can say that the lamb at Blackhawk Grille is from New Zealand! It’s definitely worth the order. The menu changes at Blackhawk Grille frequently, but the lamb I had was cooked to a perfect medium-well and served with a mint-cilantro chutney. For dinner I had a mushroom ravioli with candied almonds, arugula, and a balsamic vinaigrette drizzled on top. I love mushrooms, I love pasta, and I love balsamic vinegar. This dish was a good eats for the warm weather as it was not a heavy pasta. The fresh arugula mixed with almonds was a perfect pairing for the stuffed creamy mushroom ravioli. What I really liked about the restaurant is that they are able to accommodate big groups and are child friendly (they provided my niece who is creeping into her terrible twos with a coloring book and crayons). I’d highly recommend the dish to anyone looking for an affordable tasty dish at a fancy ritzy place!
